Has anyone got an idea of the bhp of a vauxhall corsa 1.2 8valve 1998 sohc.
Just bought it and not expecting a lot of power but just interested
cheers

I've had a quick look in a Parkers guide I've got in my desk, and for a 1.2 it quotes 45bhp.
Although there were a lot of engine options over the lifetime of this version of Corsa, I could only see one place where it quoted the power for a 1.2, so I guess thats it...

Dorians right. I ran one of these until recently, and it quoted 45bhp (60 kW) in the handbook. I don't believe there were any changes to the 1.2 8v engine during production. The 16v 1.2's were rather better with 65bhp.

I had a 1.2 E-Drive model, which was also 45hp, but had an EGR system to make it even slower; got 47mpg though...
The 12v 1.0 was a big improvement over that one.

You mean the one that's a cylinder short of an engine? :o)

But 45bhp is only 33.525kW.
Trust me I'm a physicist.
Now - 60bhp IS 45kW (approx).
Read that hand book again.>> needhelpDorians right. I ran one of these until recently, and it quoted 45bhp (60 kW) in the handbook. I don't believe there were any changes to the 1.2 8v engine during production. The 16v 1.2's were rather better with 65bhp. Regards John S

Well spotted!
45bhp is the answer, which is of course 33.57kW, as this mechanical engineer should know.
