95 2.5d Master - burning from o/s front - Javalin
Hello all,

A quick one hopefully. Burning smell after some moterway running - traced the smell to the aforementioned wheel. Quite a large initial smell, but died down a bit. Brakes not especially hot when we'd stopped - though it did take a few minutes to park and find the affected area.

I assume its likely to be brakes? I guess bearings would make a whine?

Cheers,

James

What sort of smell, did it smell like brake lining, oil, paint or what? The most likely cause is that the brake on that wheel is binding, although that would normally have made the wheel hot unless only on a short journey.

Hiya Peter,

I'd of said it was more of an electrical burning to be honest. Maybe pad's then?

It was a strong smell whilst on the motorway but died off - so I guess the pad wore down and stopped burning. The wheel was warm - but it did take 10 mins to park and find the smell, so would have cooled.

Compare the heat on the affected side with the other one, perhaps?

You probably could descibe burning friction material as an 'electrical smell' a bit like paxolin insulation.

ok - thanks Peter. I'll strip the brakes and check it out.
