97 1.4 Car won't stop running... - changedespair
I recently changed both the alternator and starter motor on my Rover 214i and now my car won't stop running, even when I take the key out of the ignition or take the battery off. The only thing that turns the car off is switching the headlights on. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

Thanks...

At a guess you have wire connected wrongly or not connected ?

re check every thing you have undone and replaced, asking yourself if it was replaced in the same place as it was removed from?

check the earth wire on the battery to the slam panel small gauge wire with a ten mm bolt holding it on to the slam panel (thats the bit that is in front of the rad and the bonnet latches onto) these tend to break and cause odd faults, Regards TB

I have a 218sd (peugeot XUD diesel engine) which had the same problem.I fitted a new stop solenoid to the injection pump which solved it.The price varied between £130+vat at the dealer to £15+vat at a local car parts shop. You have a petrol injection engine.Whether they have a stop solenoid with that model I cannot say.
