98 2.5 Duratec - overheating. - trigs
Hello all,
This is my first time on a internet forum so sorry if i make any mistakes.
I have a Mondeo on a 98 with a V6 duratec and up untill last week i have had no problems, then out of no where she starts to over heat, not a rapid rise in temp but a slow increase untill the fan kicks in, which has no effect. I thought head gasket, which i have changed (Needed a de-coke anyway) still overheating, checked thermosat which is fine. I have read that water pumps are poor on these engines any ideas anyone as i am out.

How well is the heater working? Can you get access to a laser thermometer?

A laser thermometer is a very handy tool for checking water-flow. You point it's laser beam at the area you want to measure and read off the temp on it's little screen.

Cheap ones [sub £20] need to be held close and aren't terribly accurate - the good ones are something else.

Find out whether the heater is getting hot.

Found out what was wrong. Water pump impeller has broke away from shaft, common problem due to plastic impeller. Fitted new pump with metal impeller and all is well.
Thank you for all your suggestion

Not uncommon; that was why I asked about the heater.
