my 1.6 16v astra auto 1996 has failed mot on emissions co .to high ive replaced lambda , cleaned egr valve, serviced the car, used cataclean,. the exhaust has always smelt a bit rich, and the car has always been a bit juicy. so does this mean the cat is cooked, or is it a symptom of something else .

hc 24ppm pass 200
lambda1.01 pass 0.97 to 1.03
second fast idle co .30 pass should be .30
hc 16 ppm pass 200
lambda 1.00pass .97 1.03
natural idle co .94 fail should be 0.50

exhaust blow/leak ?

its had 2 cats in its past life , recently had mid box, the rear exhaust is near its life end, since changing the lambda i can hear what sounds like back fireing on about 2000 revs coming from mid exhaust, but couldnt feel any blowing , ill take another look tomorrow

couldnt feel any, but ill get it up again and have another look, it passed mot on exhaust

Get it hot and watch the voltage on the oxygen sensor at idle; look for it sweeping at around 1 sweep per second.
