Before getting involved with any complicated issues,I would suggest you check all the fuses. These cars use a weird system whereby if a circuit fails then an substitute lighting circuit is used.hth

Hi
When did the fault start? Any history that could help. Do you have a tow bar? Have had issue where fog lamps don?t work (as the US don?t have rear fog lights) can?t think of an issue with fog lights stay on. does the tell tail on the dash also light up? Does front fogs work as they should? Did your dealer contact technical on your fault (not seen any request for assistance cases for this fault) can you post the last 8 of your VIN number from the plate on your windscreen so I can look up some more info.

Simon

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Last 8 of VIN number is 1U118579. Yes these is a towbar fitted and this may have a bearing on the problem.
Beginning of May there was a total failure of the towing socket - thinking this was just a loose wire took car to a vehicle electrical specialist who advised the "black box" which controls the socket had failed. They replaced the"black box". End of May taking caravana away, when testing lights on caravan found that the car's rear fog lights came on with the side lights. Happened whether caravan was connected or not. Took car back to vehicle electrical specialists who could not trace problem but claimed the problem existed whether this black box was connected or not into the wiring system.
Booked car into main dealer who changed the light switch on the dashboard on the Wednesday. On Thursady hooked up caravan, turned sidelights on to check caravan lights and found car rear fog lights were on again. Again did not matter whether caravan connect to car or not. Main delaer adamant that car was OK when it left them.
The car is going back to main dealer tomorrow for them to try and sort out the fault - complicated by fact MOT is up on Thursday as well.

Was hoping someone may have come across this before as the dealer is mystified by the probelm.

Front fog lights have not worked for some time since they filled with water in last summers floods. They are the least of my worries!

Hope this helps - look forward to see if you have further thoughts

best regards
Martin

Hi
Ok looked up the wiring diagram for you. When the sidelights are turn on it puts power to pin 6 of the rear lamps, this powers both the sidelights and the fog lamps at the same time. The sidelight has a constant earth so will light up. The fog lights have a switch earth at pin 5 so should not light up till the body control module earths this pin. You didn?t say if the fog light tell tail on the dash was on or not this would help to say if it?s a switch / body control area fault or a rear lamp area fault being the white/ yellow wire on the rear lamp at pin 5 is being earthed by a wiring fault or the more likely the tow bar electrics fault.
