Mk2 Escort 1978 1.6 rear seat belts - jayvee
I am refurbishing a 1978 ford escort mk2 ghia 4 door and I want to fit rear seat belts. I have found a supplier but do not know the correct location the inertia reel goes ie on the parcel shelf or under it . Also what type of buckle anchors are they the loose belt or solid rod type. I do not intend fitting a centre lap belt, any info would be a great help as I cannot find any in my local breakers yard.

Does the escort not have the anchorage points on the side panel between the back window and the rear door?

I remember back in the late 80's-90's when fitting these every day! that most car's had the ancorage points there, hidden behind plastic covers etc,

Under the seat there should be some with black plastic caps in the thread which i think is 7/16unf.

As above.

If no fixings then you will have to have some welded in but DON'T just nut and bolt the belts in place it's not safe.

weld some plate underneath the floor fixing points to spread the load a 2inch by 2inch plate will be sufficient if the floor pan is sound
i also seem to remember the fixings were there but with plastic inserts in the holes but it was a very very long time ago zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ;-)
