where is the sump plug- its not immediately obvious. does it need a special key and if so what size?

You require a T45 sized torx bit to undo it. Just look for a hex headed bolt on the lowest part of the sump. Whn I used to do my own oil changes on earlier Vauxhalls, the plug was always at the rear of the sump.

45 torx as suggested. they are on lowest part of sump very thin and easily missed

It's a Torx 45, in the base of the sump but it's not hexagonal - it's circular.

When I said "Just look for a hex headed bolt" earlier, what I meant was that the bolt head will have a hex star shaped pattern in which to accomodate the torx bit. Sorry if my earlier post was misleading.

And if they're anything like the ones on SWMBO's Zaafira or my lovely green vectra the 'feel' of the plug as you tighten it back up is horrible, it feels like you're going to strip the thread when it's only half way in, then loosens off again.
