Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.6 petrol - Gearbox problem.

04 1.6 petrol - Gearbox problem. - DavyGrolton
Advice needed please.
A couple of problems - when waiting to pull off with car in 1st gear & clutch depressed, the car begins to rattle & judder; have to put it into neutral to stop this happening - does not happen all the time.
Secondly, & especially if I've had to "crunch " the gears, the car gets stuck in reverse; rattle & judder happens as described & have to let the car stall to get out of reverse.
Changing gear in general is sticky & crunchy.
No warning lights coming on.
Any ideas anyone - serious or simple?

You're describing clutch drag. Possibly a fault with the clutch actuation.

Indeed. Bleed or adjust, and hope it's nothing too internal.

Thanks fellas.
Don't have the expertise myself - does it need a new clutch or can it be bled or adjusted at a garage? How much should it cost - have seen fitting a new clutch advertised at £261 at Nationwide Auto-centres.
