Nissan electric window - Godfrey Yeung
The offside electric window of my 1991 Nissan 200SX failed. I take away the door cover and find out the cable used to pull the window snapped due to rusting. The motor and the mechanism (regulator) are OK.

The Nissan dealer suggests that the whole regulator have to be replaced and quotes £165 plus labour for the job. I think I only need a new cable, ?

I would like to know whether I can only change the cable only (I don?t want to be ?rip-off? by the dealer)? If the whole regulator (minus the motor) has to be replaced, I would like to know is there any alternative parts dealers which may stock it (reconditioning parts are fine). I also would like to know is there any 200SX specialists located in East Sussex area (as my previous experience with the dealer is far from satisfactory)?

Many thanks for any suggestion.

Regard,

Godfrey

Try a local breakers yard first.

They often have the parts at a much cheaper price than the dealers.

I had a 200SX (1990). One thing I would also recommend is during a service when changing the oil to blow the system (usually using a compressed air pipe). This ensures that there is no oil blockages formed in the pipes which restricts the supply to the turbo. I learned this at considerable expense. Good fun cars all the same.
blow system?? - Godfrey Yeung
Dear Jonathan,

How to blow the system?? Being not technical minded, I am not even sure which pipe is connected to the turbo?? Should I simply ask the garage to do that for me during the next oil change?

Thanks,

Godfrey

There's an excellent website for these cars at www.nissan200sx.co.uk. Last time I looked, someone on there was breaking a complete car, so might have the bit you need. Good luck!
Re: Nissan electric window - Godfrey Yeung
Dear Jonathan & Ian,

Many thanks for the valuable advices. I am trying to get in touch with the guy who is breaking his 200sx - he is asking for £65, including the delivery (well, not cheap, but a good saving of £100). I shall let you know whether I am able to fix it for myself later on.

P.S. The Nissan dealer told me that I get to give them the chassic number of my car before they can order the parts for me - it gives me the impression that my car is unique & they are the only suppliers of parts, ... I don't think any car manufacturers will design a car like that - unique parts for every car???

with best wishes,

Godfrey

Forget to mention that the 200sx website is very useful for any 200sx owners. Should I know there is such website, I may be able to save some money in my previous works with the Nissan dealer!!!

Yes, from what I hear, Nissan dealers are still asking seriously steep prices for parts for the old 200, not to mention labour. You're far better off placing an ad in the Wanted section of that website.

Glad to be of help,
Ian.

Five star Japanese spares. Various branches. In Exchange and Mart. They sold me an ECU for £250. Nissan main dealer wanted £1200 + VAT. Anyone who goes anywhere any main dealer is mad in my opinion. They are the "cowboys".
