The radio reception of my Focus is awful. What can be the likely cause? It's not the signal, as my Focus II I've traded down from had excellent reception. Will it be the unit, the aerial or something more complex?

Check the aerial connection at the back of the radio, is this fm or mw?
Up here in leeds there is one local station that is very poor all over the city on fm!
Check for a short on the coax.

check connection in the a pillar (to the right or your head when sitting in the car)

Has it got the standard radio or a aftermarket unit ,I believe ford use an in line 12v supplied aerial amplifier hidden away somewhere normaly ford radios are pretty good . In cases such as Pug/Cit you have to fit an amp for the aftermarket unit to work properly as the amp is fitted in the radio.
