CV Joints? - Woosey
My pug 205 has got a strange problem that only occurs in reverse, when using full lock in reverse a bang can be heard from the front left wheel arch, but goes away almost instantly, any ideas??

Thanks for the help

Have you got mud flaps fitted? These or a protruding fitting may interfere with the wheel on full lock? (Cheaper to fix than a CV!)

Does it do anything else in normal driving? My 309 had similar symptoms; it had got worse after a 200m drive to the north east and a local mechanic told me not to drive it. Peugeot replaced the entire driveshaft. The 'banging' happened on full lock whether going forward or reversing.

Do you have Lucas/Girling brakes?

The antirattle spring can fail, and the caliper stick slightly, so that when you reverse the pads move back in the caliper and "bang" harmlessly. Try removing the pads and checking for the piston sticking etc.

Is anything visible to a spectator? I wouldn't expect that sort of noise from a CV joint - it sounds more like fouling of some sort.
