1990 5.3 auto - Water pump - trickynicky
Can anybody offer some advice please.
I need to change the water pump on a 1990 5.3 XJS auto. {added to subject header as per the 3 separate requests!}
Are there any nasties to watch out for, and is it really necessary to remove the damper and crankshaft pulley?
If it is, has anyone got advice on how to undo the retaining bolt. Jamming the flywheel ring gear looks pretty much impossible without taking half the car to bits!
Thanks in advance

Best check the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club website, or other forums(?), on this one.
I think your fears over the extent of the job are well-founded. Good luck.

Thanks Mike
I have posted on a jag forum, and so far no replies - several viewings though.

When it was new, the book time for a water pump was only 3.6 hours..... [When it was new.....]

Probably a bit optimistic now its covered in ****. The bit that bothers me is the crank pulley though, if I can't get to the flywheel to lock things up, how can I hold things still without damaging the pulley?

The traditional method is to use a hammer gun, as they don't impart a rotary motion.
