1999 1.8 - Brake grinding noise - jswillia
Ive got a problem with my 1999 Ford Focus 1.8, if I turn into a fairly hard corner and apply my brakes I get a grinding noise coming from the back. If I apply the brakes normally there is no noise at all, ive had a look at the brake pads and they seem to be ok but im no expert. The discs don?t seem to have any damage to them either, any ideas what this could be?

This could be either a wheel bearing or the beginning of the brake pads chewing up the discs.

Have a close look for any signs of fine metal dust on the rims; that can sometimes signify worn pads.

Whatever it is; having a competent garage take a look at it - urgently - is your best move.

Thanks for that, i will take it to a garage as soon as pos.

Do you think it could be a stone caught in the pad?

I had similar on a Focus, many moons ago. I found half a shakeproof washer inside a drum. I never could work out how it got there, or where the other half was. It had a main dealer service a few weeks previously, which included (I presume) removing the drums.
