Focus Zetec Cam belt interval - Roly93

Does anyone know when the cam-belt should be changed on this car (1.6 Zetec SE engine).
Is it just on mileage or is it age as well ?

This car will have a "Black Top" Zetec engine fitted.

Ford recommendation is 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever is reached first, though you may wish to have it changed sooner. This is particularly advisable if the car does mainly short journeys with a lot of stop-start.

The belt hardly ever fails on these engines. It's nearly always the tensioner or pulleys that fail first.

If getting the cam-belt changed make sure that a complete kit is fitted, which will include tensioner and pulleys.

Only consider having a Ford or Gates belt kit fitted (Gates manufacture the belts for Ford!)

Brake system Every 2 years - Renew - brake fluid (LTS 12 154 4)
Air conditioning Every 3 years - Check temperture at the evaporator outlet tube. Check air conditioning lines for damage and leaks (LTS 34 619 1) (TSB 67/2002)
Cooling system Every 4 years - Check/clean pressure cap, renew if there is seal deterioration
Cooling system Every 10 years - Orange/pink coloured coolant. Drain, flush and refill with purple Super Plus (LTS 24 122 4)
Cooling system Every 10 years - Drain, flush and refill with purple Super Plus(LTS 24 122 4)
Camshaft drive belt Every 100 000 miles/10 years - Renew - (Zetec with auto-tensioner) (LTS 21 304 9)
Auxiliary drive belts Every 100 000 miles / 10 years - Renew front belt
Visual Body & Paint Check Every 12 or 24 months depending on vehicle type and build year/registration date. Carry out during operations marked (+) above - see detailed Check Sheet - if applicable (LTS 54 555 1 +)

Yeah, every 100,000 miles or 10 years, and as someone else said they aren't known for failing sooner. That said I HAVE seen a few on eBay going dirt cheap because the cambelt has snapped at 60k, 70k, etc. It does happen.

I risked taking my Fiesta Zetec up to 97k and 9 years before I sold it on the original cambelt.

If I remember correctly (99% sure) you are supposed to have the valve clearances checked/adjusted at 100k or 10 years, too. This will cost a bit extra.
