is there an AFTERMARKET alarm/immobiliser fitted? these aftermarket type things usually give your tempermental symptoms (car not you OP )
|
tried that no the immobiliser as this only cuts off the start motor

Are the ignition leads OK?

Could it be dried out or leaking electrolytic capacitors in the ECU? I've repaired a number of Mitsubishi ECUs with this, and my Jaguar one. Symptoms are a random failure of ignition or fuel injection, which may or may not come right after some time left alone. Replacement is relatively straightforward for an electronics hobby person or TV repair tech.

This could possibly be the old problem of a fault in the fuse/relay box.Dry solder joints on the printed circuit board to the efi relays can cause the system to fail intermittantly, thus no spark or injection.Unlikely to be the Ecu ,these early Ford E 4 systems are fairly bomb proof.hth
