The German government is going to vote later this month on fixing the max speed limit to 120kph and it seems its going to be passed the main reason being the reduction in C02 gasses ,the way they enforce speed limits in Germany there will be little point in buying a E500 when the 200 will do everything that is allowed.

I don't know if this will go through as smoothly as expacted... Pragmatic fellows, the Huns. And I'm sure there is some intense lobbying by DaimlerChrysler, Audi, VW, BMW, Opel etc etc etc, and the local MPs will have to leap into line behind the manufacturers, and may just outnumber the Green lobby...

It just won't go through, at least not yet.

There is an article in "Die Zeit" about this.

Nationwide speed limit is an issue that pops its head up every few years here in Germany and has done for as long as I can remember, either based on a road safety or environmental agenda. It's basically been kicked into touch (again) as neither of the ruling coalition parties are in favour due to the importance of the car industry here.

They have just introduced a grant for young mothers, up to 25 000 Euros.

Looks like Germany is going the same way as here then.

Those figures are high. Here in Poland you can have a grant of max 3000 zl, but it in real life it is more like 1000-1500 zl. Just for new child's trolley & that's that. An equivalent of about 400 Euros.
I don't think the Germans would give up their huge social benefits that easily. Same for autobahn speed limits, they like to drive very fast.

When will governments stop telling people what to do. If they don't want people to burn petrol, put petrol taxes up insted of outlawing people who chose to go fast and so burn up more petrol.

Interesting point to note is that the proposed plan will reduce the petrol tax take of the german government. For all you harderned cynics out there explain this.

This global warming garbage is manna from heaven for governments. They can impose all sorts of restrictive controls on our behaviour in the interests of "Saving the planet".

Meanwhile, our lot publicly implore us to use trains instead of cars to cut environmental damage, then increase rail prices above the rate of inflation so that many can't afford to travel by train because the system can't cope with more passengers. Shows how much they really believe in man made global warming themselves.

Believe you me young mothers are not going to be given a lump sum of 25,000 euros it covers the lifetime of the childs dependancy and is to replace an already higher benifit.
