Saab 9-5 hesitation - lordwoody
My 99 T reg Saab 9-5 has developed a miss-fire/hesitation when accelerating, more noticeable at lower speed and heavier acceleration, but can occur at any speed. I've changed the plugs but so far that's all. My local garage will look at it and, as an ex-Saab owner, will have experience and knowledge of the car, but I was wondering if a Saab dealer would have better diagnostic equipment? Will diagnostic equipment pinpoint such a fault ?

See if the independent can read any codes. Otherwise you will have to go to SAAB.
Some faults gets logged, others don't.

Might be the HT leads.

Most garages these days should have scan tool to pull off the codes on this.

I believe that your SAAB will have the all-in-a-box HT 'cassette' . Probably something gone wrong there. Take the cassette off and inspect it carefully underneath for marks and discolouration (or oil leaking out). Be warned that they are not cheap......!

I would agree that it's probably the DI cassette, or it could be the crank position sensor. If you can, try a known good DI cassette rather than buy one (c. £120) first. Also, I suggest you take a trip to the specialist Saab website at www.saabscene.com , where you'll find a host of enthusiasts waitig to help on the 9-5 forum!

Crank sensor tends to give rpm or heat-related wierdness. HT problems tend to be load related. Finding a known good cassette can be a problem. I had to fix one of these and was sent two faulty s/hand cassettes before I got a good one. The all seem to go faulty sooner or later - its a matter of time more than anything.
