Isofix on Mk1 Focus? - Zipf
I'm replacing my current car and have been thinking about going for a Mk1 Focus (prob. 2002/3 115ps TDCi Zetec estate in particular) and was wondering whether any of these have Isofix child seat fixings. None of those I've seen so far have had it and there seem to be a miniscule number that mention it in Autotrader (3 in the entire country of any type of Mk1 Focus, although I guess it's not the first thing people are going to put in their ads).

1) Anyone out there ever seen one with Isofix (beginning to wonder whether those that came up in the search were mistakes)?
2) Is this an across-the-range option that apparently very few people went for or is it only on certain models/ages?
3) Is it possible to retrofit Isofix to a Mk1 Focus (think I can guess the answer to that one!!)?

I'm somewhat puzzled about the reference to a MK1 Focus around 2002.2003) - the Focus has been around for a lot longer than that.

I have a 1999 VW Bora which has Isofix child seat fixings.

I think he means the facelifted MK 1 Focus which made it's debut in 2002.

Thanks Adam, but I did realise that fact. It's the Mk1 reference that's puzzling. Even Ford, I would imagine, wouldn't describe a thoroughly revised Focus as the Mk1 model....:-)

Trust me - they would!

The new one is the Mark 2, the 1998-2005 one is the Mark 1. Some people call the 2002 - 2005 one the Mark 1.5 but not only does it look and sound ridiclous, unless you're a Ford enthusiast or read lots of Ford Forums, you wouldn't know.

Besides which, going off track a bit, it wasn't thoroughly revised at all. It got new cup holders, plastic bumper inserts and indicators in the headlights and that really is pretty much about it!

And purely because of the headlamp and indicator changes the Focus dropped down the insurance groups. Assume it's down to repairability... indicators no longer in bumper for example. Doubt it was the cup holders ;-)

I didn't know they were in different insurance groups. There of course were lots of other little changes - the Ghia saloon lost it's alloy wheels - that probably went some way to lowering the groups.

Anyway - we really are digressing!

In reply to Adam's post.

Erm, actually I think the Ghia saloon *gained* it's alloy wheels at the point of facelift, they were optional as part of the style pack before facelift (hence you see some pre-facelift Ghias with steels) and standard fit after the facelift.

Sorry to be nit picky but it's one of my specialist subjects!

And just to stay on topic, no as far as I'm aware the MK1 Focus was not available with Isofix at all, even as an option, my 2003 model certainly didn't have them, and I didn't see a single vehicle fitted with during my whole time working at the local Ford dealers.

The 99 Focus 2L in our household has grey leather seats.

I guess this too was an optional extra but I have not seen any other Focus with leather ?

Respectfully Blue, I think you *might* be wrong.

Our Ghia saloon has no optional extras whatsoever and has the alloys. In fact, I've never seen a single pre facelift Ghia saloon without. But my uncle had a facelift Ghia saloon and it had steel wheels. I've seen a few other facelifted ones without alloys too.

But I could well be wrong myself!

Trust me, alloys were definately an option on the pre-facelift Ghia, I'm sure of it, as I have seen several without when working at the Ford dealers, the only post-facelift ones with steels have had their standard alloys removed (although why anyone would take them seeing as they look like steels anyway is beyond me) or they may be imports built to different specs.

The Ghia only got really nice alloys as standard at the final 2004 revision before the launch of new Focus. (they went from been "dustbin lid" style to an attractive multi-spoke) Look closely at your uncles to check they aren't the "dustbin style" alloy, it's really plain and may as well be a steel quite frankly :-)

He got rid ages ago so I can't check!

How come mine has the non dustbin style alloys on then?

They were put on as an option when new, and most likely they are the same type as fitted as standard to later LX models...

Sometimes cars came with options even when not asked for, sometimes the dealership has only a few new cars in stock and in order to do the right deal there and then they will let them go out with the options "for free" (they're not really free but there's such a big discount due to the car been adopted old stock that they may as well be). The most notable one I sold was a Mondeo Ghia that came with the full colour touch screen Nav system that was about an £1800 option from the list, the customer hadn't asked for it and didn't really want it, but seeing as we sold him the car so cheaply he didn't mind. I would suspect something similar has happened with your saloon without your family even knowing about it.

'Tis true. I was looking at buying a Focus Ghia some time ago and was put off from the pre-facelift Mk1 because of the lack of standard alloys.
Also, I have a friend with the 2001 TDDI Ghia hatch that has cd multi-changer, heated leather seats but no Alloys! He bought it from new and it was always like that.

All the post-face lift cars gained alloys as standard.

Take a look at the detailed specs on the Parkers chooser guide for more info on specs and model year variations.
