Laguna Lamda - ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond
I've been phoning around trying to find the cheapest cat for my R reg 1998 1.8 8v Renault Laguna.(manual-petrol).

I've been asked does it have a Lamda?

Its cheaper if it hasnt one of these things.

What is it and does anyone know if this model would have one?

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you have been ringing idiots ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond. they will all have a lambda somewhere unless these models have two?
are you fitting it yourself?
IIf yes then find in your yellow pages your local exhaust wholesaler and talk to him dont forget gaskets if you need them and watch it as they like charging lots for silly things like clamps etc
personally i would buy s/h if i could find a good low mileage one off a crashed car locally
If not fitting it yourself then to me it sounds like they havent got a clue so will probably make up your bill by thinking of a number doubling it adding ten and then a fiver for dave cos he gets married next week
tread carefully exhaust places love people who dont know a lambda from a pork chop

Good luck

I wont be fitting the pork chop myself.

A couple of guys own a garage I know through a friend and they are not out to rip you off. They have been very good to me in the past. They have been asking breaker yards but nothing at the mo. Thought I'd ask about to see if I could find a cheap....er one.

Breakers get more for the metals in a cat than they do selling it whole second hand, normally collected in bulk buy a metal dealer.A second hand cat is the last thing you want to be fitting its fraught with problems.

Nothing wrong with s/h cats its the cheap copies i have problems with, wait till the new law comes out regarding oe fitted cats for cars after 2001 and see how much you get charged then .
If you buy a s/h cat from a proper breaker he wont sell you a dud.
iIget paid between £10 and £15 for old cats .

How on earth can a scrap dealer tell if a second hand cat is going to work properly.

Also bear in mind that cats fail for a reason, so even if you replace it with a new one, you may still have an underlying fault. We sell a cat for this model for £70 +vat, I think you should have the type that has a 2 bolt fixing to the front pipe.
