Boot Strut/Ram - Peugeot 205 Cabrio - geoff1248
I have a Pug 205 Cabrio and the boot strut has lost all its power so the boot won't stay open. None of our local breakers has one and the local Pug dealers want an arm and most of my leg for a new one. Does anyone out there know if the strut was used in another model Pug or any other car?

Don't know if it was used on another model Pug- but you could try one of the specialist french parts suppliers like GSF or Euro, or possibly car parts direct.

I've seen Mondeo ones for sale on Ebay.

Don't know whether you might find Pug 205 ones there too, but it might be worth a look.

I've seen Mondeo ones for sale on Ebay.

They are actually Corsa struts that happen to fit Mondeos so that you do not have to use the old fashioned bonnet prop.
Some Mondeo lads source them from Germany.

Possibly worth checking for them in the EU.
Or ask on one of the owners sites.

"was the strut used in another model Pug"

As the cabrio had a small boot-lid and every other 205 model was a hatchback, the cabrio strut was probably a 'special'. I seem to remember the struts on my cabrios were a bit weak too. But I can't believe the strut would be model-specific, so they might be found on a small Citroen or Renault.

I recently picked up a pair off eBay for my hatchback 205, as I had the same problem. So it's probably worth keeping an eye out on there. I can now open the boot without it smashing my skull in!

I've just had a quick look on eBay and there's a couple of pairs for sale, so you might want to get in quick. Search for "205 strut" on there.

A quick google turned these guys up:

www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/automotive.php

Worth a punt to see how much they want to refurb them. Otherwise, a piece of wood makes a good substitute!

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

Yes, the strut will be model specific.

Try www.stabilus.com , they might be able to help you at their place at Banbury (see www.stabilus.com/downloads/anfahrtskizzen/England....f ), as they're the OEM supplier for many manufacturers (including Peugeot?).

While trying to find Stabilus, I also stumbled across www.strutsdirect.co.uk who may be worth giving a try.

Stabilus won't be able to help you. The 205 cabrio is out of production and anyway Stabilus don't sell direct to the public. Try SGS - as long as the strut hasn't been run dry for too long it should be capable of being regassed.

As I don't anticipate keeping the car all that much longer I am a little reluctant to splash out on a brand new strut. The idea of having the old one "recharged" had not occured to me-nice one.
It has also been suggested to me that the strut from a 306 sedan is the same. Anyone throw some light on this?
