Focus, Alfa 156, Lancia Lybra, Astra. - Stifa
Hi,
I was just offered :
Ford Focus TDDI 1.8 7800 euro
Alfa Romeo 156 1.9jtd 63000 euro
Lancia Lybra 1.8 7000euro
Opel Astra G 1.6 6500euro

What would you choose for comfort and joy ride with less maintenance problems and costs?

Focus, Alfa 156, Lancia Lybra, Astra. - Wee Willie Winkie
Well, I'd steer well clear of the 156 if it's 63,000 euro! :-)

Each, apart from the Lancia which I have no idea about, have their own pros and cons. The Ford, great handling, agricultural engine. The Alfa, fantastic handling, bad reliability record. The Opel, perfectly reliable but a bit dull....

Are Lancia any better than Fiat?
Focus, Alfa 156, Lancia Lybra, Astra. - Happy Blue!
I drove Focus TDDi a few years ago, and it was a perectly adequate engine in a great handling car.

Heart says Alfa/Lancia; head and heart says Ford.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Where are you Stifa? What country?

The Alfa with the 1.9JTD is a very nice drive indeed and well kitted out. The majority of them must be reliable?

For us Lancia deprived Brits, here's the Lancia Lybra

Of the bunch, the Alfa looks to be the largest and cheapest. Plus it looks gorgeous. But i haven't driven any of them.

The Lancia looks similar to a Fiat Marea station wagon. Are they in any way related?
Focus, Alfa 156, Lancia Lybra, Astra. - barchettaman
Same floorplan as the Alfa 156 IIRC.

Looks quite tidy as an estate, but not as successful as a saloon IMHO.

TDDi engine is weak, loud and sluggish...

The TDDi engines are strong, loud and sluggish.

TDCi is the one you want.

90bhp out is not that strong in this century. ;)

I would have thought strong or weak described how reliable and long-lasting they are, surely sluggish describes its lack of power?

As for the original question, it can only be answered by yourself, as only you know what you value.
I wouldn't touch the Astra or Focus - I like to own something a bit different to the norm. I know nothing about the Lancia, I know that the 156 is a lovely car.

The Lancia looks awful in all guises! 156 all the way

Led by my heart I was going to say Lancia (until I saw the pic) - Alfa then.

The Lancia looks like a cross between a Mark 1 Mondeo estate and something by Daewoo. If you're in a country with a reasonable number of Alfa dealers, the Alfa may be the best of this bunch, assuming it's 6,300 euros.

If it's an estate you're after, remeber that the Alfa isn't exactly caoacious, as style was allowed to prevail over practicality.
