VW Sharan Spare Wheel Carrier - Rats
The spare wheel carrier mechanism (rachet and cable) has failed on my 2002 VW Sharan, does anyone know of any likely sources of such a part in the Hampshire area please.....it appears to be simple to replace, two bolts.

Hi there, the same thing happened on my galaxy, there is a design fault within the unit, will yours retract?? the bolt would just turn and make a harsh clicking noise with no retraction of the cable. i don't know of anywhere in the hampshire area. but why don't you try some of the breakers. or www.247spares.co.uk or some other breaker websites. hope this helps. That sounds very similar, it won't fully extend to the ground, but will still retract, however, the clicking noise is just how you describe.

Will try the local breakers next week.

I've not got around to replacing this yet, however, now need to get it sorted.

Popped into the local VW franchise on Friday to get one, however, the picture on their system is totally different to the one that came off my car.

Now I am wondering whether this part has been changed as it is a design fault and whether there has been a recall for this??

Does anyone have an inkling??

Any answers would be appreciated
