Astra power steering / battery light - bigman
Hi
I have got a problem with a astra 1.6 16valve ecotec,which is as follows: the battery light has come on and also at the same time i lost the power steering, please can someone help.

Same belt drives alternator and power steering pump. Suspect it has come off or snapped. Time for a new belt I would think.

Cheers for that thought i thought the belt aswell so i am at a loose end too now

The astra has electric /hydraulic power steering that is battery voltage sensitive.If the charging system is faulty ,sounds likely if w/light is on,then the system will shut down to give voltage priority to other consumers.I suspect the alternator is the problem.

sorted it out yesterday and it was the alternator thanks to the people who replied to my thread
