While in a traffic Jam, the Glow Plug lamp flashed and "ENGINE WORKSHOP" came into view. Turned back from jam and drove home. All went out after 2 minutes. Ignore or action?

Had the same problem in my golf tdi 115. Took it to the dealer they ran diagnostics on it. They found that there was a problem with rear brake light/casing. Replaced it never had any problems again.
