mk 2 mondeo dampers 1 or 2? - chadlangdon

Hi, My 1999 Mondeo failed its MOT today on a defective offside
front shock absorber.For safety reasons, do I need to have both fronts replaced?Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You should always replace dampers in pairs. Likewise brake discs and pads.

Rule of thumb is to replace in pairs. Just like with brake discs and pads.

Especially so if the front shocks are the originals. In 6 yrs those shocks have no doubt seen many a pot hole and speed hump. To only replace the one will compromise the handling.

The only time I've never replaced shocks in pairs was when one of my front shocks failed within 6 months of fitting them. The flawed one was replaced under warranty (using exactly the same brand) and I was assured that the other one was still perfect.

Hi,spoke to my mechanic today ,booked in next week to get both fronts done.Thanks for the advice.
