hazard warning lamps not working. Escort - cliff
hi, my son's mk4 escort is blowing the fuse on the hazard light circuit although all of the indicator bulbs are working ok.
Any ideas?
Also his horn has stopped working, i've put a meter on the horn connection and earth and it's not showing any reading, the fuse is ok.
Any ideas?
As you can see electrics leave me a little stumped!!
thanx

Hi,

It is worth removing the hazard warning switch and checking its operation, it could have and internal short.

The "Hazard Warning" fuse is for both the hazard warning lights and the horn (I don't know what fuse you're looking at for the horn). So don't worry, both problems are connected. The indicators work independantly from a seperate fuse.

So why does this fuse keeps blowing? As has been said, check the switch for short-circuiting. To rule out the horn circuitry, disconnect the multiplugs from the indicator/light stalk to confirm that it's them that have the problem.

Secondhand switch assemblies are cheap enough from ebay. If you feel like taking the thing apart and having a look yourself, the switch is just two seperate mouldings clipped together. The dim/dip switch twist will I think just come off if you wriggle it and pull it.
