A 1993 1.1S is the K series engined Metro. It has the gearbox on the side so certainly does need gearbox oil. I couldn't tell you what type though.
It was the old A Series ones that didn't since the gearbox was in the sump.

The correct grade is: 75w/80w
Halfords stock it.
Accessibility is poor; you will find that a long length of tubing will make the job easier.

I am pretty sure that the Metro gearbox is in with the engine. So you don't need a gearbox oil!

Sorry, very sorry, your Metro needs Castrol Syntrax or EPX 75W/80W. 4.5 litres should do.
I must check the year more carefully in future.

thank you for your reply so if i buy this oil i can apply this stright into the engine

No Ned,
In your case, being a relatively new Metro, the engine and gearbox are completely separate.
So, engine oil for the engine, and gearbox oil for the gearbox.
I think it might be worth your while obtaining a Haynes manual, or similar, for your car to guide you in your work. Even with good intent, it is easy to cause expensive damage.
