I'm in the market for one of these but are having a bit of trouble with the salesmen (no surprises!!).

Looking at drivethedeal.co.uk there seem to indicate a discount of about 5.8% buying new and whatcar? have a target price which is just under 4%.

I'm intending to wave these prices under his/her nose but thought I'd ask to see if anyones got any examples/ideas/etc.

I've a car to trade in or sell privately which may affect the deal I can get...

Finally, has anyone any experience of drivethedeal and what sort of service they offer? They've been around for a while but I'm not sure if there are any problems. I like the way that the cars are sourced through a UK dealer.

Thanks in advance!

Problem 1, there are no airfields full of unsold Jazzi dotted around the country.
Problem 2, he has a limited supply and probably all the customers he can handle.

so

Its no good waving a copy of a mag under his nose, or some unspecified web offer. You need to convince the man you can do the deal, right there right now, with the minimum fuss for him. Then you might get the 4%

Try "you give me 4% discount and I will put down a deposit & sign your order from this very minute"

I test drove one today and was very impressed. Only two critisms: 1) slightly underpowered and 2) stering a little to light and vague when on the move. Salesman wouldn't give ANY discount, only free metallic paint(£300) and only gave CAP (aution price) for my 35K 2001 Accord! No deal was done. It's a great little car, but there's alot of choice for the cost to change.

1) To be expected really, it's not marketed as a sports car

2) I find the steering on my mum's Jazz horribly light, to the point where i feel it is dangerous. Also to gain full lock, the steering wheel has to be turned much further than on my Escort, resulting in it being very easy to over-steer (as in turn too tightly, or not wind the lock off fast enough).

Anyone else of the same opinion? I have two younger brothers who are both learning to drive in this car, and are struggling with the steering in the Jazz much more than with their instructor's cars.

Coming back to the question of price......

You may find that you have entered the market at quite a good time i.e. at the run-up to new registration on 1st September.

Back on 1/7/03, my local Dealer was offering £400 off pre-reg 'S type' and on 1/8/03 he was offering £800 off pre-reg same model.

So, if I was in your shoes, I would wait until 1/8/05 and then phone round as many Dealers as possible...it is worth a try....after all, I suppose they have targets to meet even in August!!

Do let us know how you get on...it is rather irritating to contribute to threads but not to know whether one's suggestion has been of any help!

According to the Times motoring section yesterday the Jazz will shortly be made in China and exported to the UK. I wonder if prices or availability will improve ?

Would you want a Bejing Jazz?

The Jazz is the most fun to drive car I have found since driving Minis in the 1970's.
We bought ours at a discount because it was pre-registered but you should still not pay full price for a new one,but you won't get much offered for a mundane trade in.
Remember that the depreciation on this sought after car is low so whole ownership cost is modest if you keep it for a sensible time.

- I don't think you'll get a serious discount.

- 'S Type' Jazz? You sure you don't mean Civic?

- Beijing Jazz ... almost everything else in made in China and there seems to be no shortage of customers for them. Beijing or Swindon built cars are not as good as Japanese built ones, but would still be good enough I would suggest. Aslo, discounts might finally start coming into play!

Suspect 'S-type' means the bottom of the range rather than SE or SE Sport models.

Just to let you know that we did the deal on a 1.4SE at the weekend. We were offered about the trade price from the Parkers price guide plus about £350-£400 off the car which I thought was reasonable.

Now looking forward to a September delivery...

That's similar to the deal we got a couple of years sgo, and where I live there (unusually, I think) happen to be several Honda dealers within close(ish) range, including 2 with a few miles of each other. I played them off as much as I could but they clearly don't have anywhere to go. I did get a few hundred pounds worth of mats/flaps/side bumpers/extra plip at 'cost' too, and they threw in a free first service (after 12 mths) as the handover was a bit of a disaster (they hadn't fitted the mats/flaps/side bumpers/extra plip!). I felt embarrased as I'd 'sold' Honda to my wife (she wanted a Fiesta!!). She loves the Jazz now, though.

We were p/x'ing a car (98 Clio RXE) that everyone said was 'overbooked' in Glass's at £3500 - most offers were £2800-£3000. So I was pleased to get £3300 in the end. I also got the £600 extended w'tee cost refunded (never expected that when I bought it). I wanted to P/X it because it really needed a new cambelt and a chunky service as it was 5 yrs old.
