1996 Skoda Felicia 1.3 brake 'squeak' - volvoman
Hi 'mechies', Mrs V's car is making an odd noise which we can't trace. On braking there is a little squeal from the front wheels which we know is down to pad wear. However on releasing the brakes there is an odd 'squeak' coming fom the rear of the car just as the pedal is fully released. It isn't more noticeable on either side and doesn't appear to be coming from the drums, it only seems to happen when the car is moving and doesn't depend on speed or the force applied to the pedal. Pumping the brake pedal when the car is stationery produces no noise at all.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks as always.

Lube the shoe where it rubs against the backplate. The shoe will move slightly on the backplate (due to the torque from the drum). It doesn't move in the quite the same way when stationary (because the drum is not 'pushing' it) so you don't get the squeak. Use a smidgen of copper grease. Probably best to do both sides.
