There should be three fuses in total. Fuse 7 and 10 (Both 10 amp)
both whch are in the main fuse box in the car. (At the end of the righthand section of the dash) and a 50 amp fuse that will be behind another fuse box that is located UNDER the right hand lower corner of the dash. The fuse position in the fuse box varys from model to model, so I can not give you a number.
Check this fuse for signs of melting where it plugs into the fuse box. If all of these are fine, then it may be worth unplugging the ABS unit and looking for signs of corrosion/pin damage on the loom connector. Only do this with the ignition off.
I can give you the pin data for this connector plug if you want to check that the "earths" and "lives" are all present if you wish.

No problem.
if the garage is a VW speciatist, then I am sure that they will have all the data that is required, and know of any "common problems" with theses cars. Please do post the result.
