My 1990 Passat estate central locking works fine from outside with the key but from the inside will not operate. If you push the knob down inside on the drivers door it should lock all the doors but does not. Any technical advice appreciated.....

My 1990 Golf GTi works just the same but there is a door lock/unlock button on the drivers door arm-rest. You should have a similar lock control on the dash or door.
I find that if I lock the doors from inside, say in a dodgy area at night, all the passenger doors open normally from inside but the driver's one stays locked and I have to find and use the damned switch again!

On my Passat the doors should lock by pushing down the locking knobs, and pushing down the drivers one from inside should lock all the doors (says this in the manual), but on mine it does not seem to happen, I can lock each door individually but not all from the drivers door. There is no lock control on the dash or door unfortunately.....
