BMW 328 i climate control fault - kal
HI gents, a small problem with my mates BMW 328 i cc system, when on demist function set to clear windscreen the fan speed seems to have a mind of its own and will vary the speed of the air flow, yet the syetem is set to manual mode. Can anybody help.

Two possible faults could cause this problem.The cabin/pollen filter could be blocked causing an air flow restriction;or the electronic fan speed controller is erratic in operation.(both common faults)

Yes, motor speed controller on these can be a bit unreliable.
It is possible to repair if you have a resonable ability with electronics and can source the required parts (power transistor) - otherwise a new ECU needed....

Are you referring to the one-touch demist programme button (top right on an E36 CC)? If so that will, or should, set the fan speed to maximum regardles of any other settings.
