Bought a set of shoes and can't get the drums on, looks like I'll have to sand them down. Any quick method of doing this?

Check that the inner lip of the drum hasn't rusted, and "grown" a little. Remove if necessary.
Check that adjuster is fully off
Check that the shoes are fitted correctly and concentric with the backplate
If they still won't go on...take em back, they are the wrong ones

Took the shoes back to supplier and asked to see another set,discovered that the problem shoes are about 2mm longer than the fresh set. So either wrong shoes in right box or a bad batch made by Nippon. Hoping I can fit second set tommorrow.
