Pug 406 Door trim - removal. - cholin

I need to remove the inside trim panel from the offside front door, Pug 406 2.1TD. Mr Haynes says lever off the switch surround in the arm rest to remove the switches. It is the two switch layout with some sort of small tray which could be an ash tray or possibly for collar studs. I have tried levering off the surround which is separate from the tray but my nerve runs out when things start to bend. Am I missing something? Is this an area where there is much expertise or am I pioneer? Any advice would be welcome.

You may find it easier. to use two electrical screwdrivers one on each end of switch panel mount. lever up carefully and it should move. it is only I think held in place by two flat spring plates.Tray may have screw in the bottom which will.if there. need to be removed in order to remove trim. I am not certain of 406. but a lot of cars are like this
