Toyota Celica - Desb
I am thinking of buying a Celica Cabriolet. How do I tell if it is an used import and does it really matter ?

What year is it? AFAIK they're all imports. Toyota didn't sell a cabriolet version in the UK. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Parker's mention one:

"01/11/1994
2.0 Cabriolet (173 bhp) launched in UK with electric hood and windows, alloy wheels, leather upholstery."

The 5th generation (ST182/ST185 pop up headlamp type) wasn't offered in the UK as a convertible, only available as an import. The 6th generation convertible(ST200/ST205 1994-1999 with 4 round headlights) was officially available in the UK. They are very rare, but apparently the hood is of excellent quality, but will be very expensive if it needs replacing. These need specialist attention, including cambelt at 60K, Oil and filter every 9K (as opposed to previous models every 6K) etc. The 6th gen. model was also available as a 115bhp 1.8, but avoid this model as it is underpowered, go for the 173bhp 2.0 GTS.
Import cars sometimes have the speedo calibrated in KM, some switchgear MIGHT have japanese decal, and the rear numberplate will be square instead of rectangular!!

Oh yeah, this months copy of used car buyer in which HJ does the problem page(available in WH Smiths) got an excellent feature on Celicas, every type ever made from 1970 to present, well worth a read!

1997 - it seems reasonably priced but that might be because it is an import.
