pug 405, electrical problem - duggie
Hi, the cars a 96 pug 405td, started the car this morning (cold) noticed the radiator fan now coninuously runs whether engine is hot or cold also temp gauge not working all other gauges working fine, also the airbag warning light is on, not sure if this is related to the other problems, just seems strange the warning light came on at the same time. Appreciate any help.

Hi

The temp gauge sounds like the sensor, If this or the wiring goes faulty the fans run all the time to stop you cooking the engine.

Which airbag light is on?

The red one in the wheel or the yellow one on the instrument panel?

Hi Lee, the airbag warning light is on the instrument panel, going back to the fan and temp gauge not working main dealer said it could be the bitron unit.

Hi

The airbag light, Have you got the radio code?

Shut the alarm system down ( If it still works! lol )

Dissconnect the battery & WAIT 10 minutes before unplugging any of the SRS connectors.

Under each front seat there is a 2 pin orange connector, This is for the pyrotechnic seat belt pre tensioners. Try unplugging these & cleaning the terminals with some wd40 or something like that & make sure they are a good fit with each other.

The fans running have you checked the fuse in the fuse box inside the car? I think its fuse no 2, A 5 amp, If this blows the fans run all the time & the temp gauge wont work.

followed the deactivating/activating instructions from the haynes manual, had no effect, you mention SRS connectors what and where are these? l'll check and clean the contacts under the seats. Thanks for your help Lee.

Hi

To shut the alarm down ( If its still working! ) Its needs a key behind the passenger headlamp under the little black cover, you cant miss it, Just turn it to off ( If you have the key! Has Texton on the key )

SRS connectors are the ones for the airbag, Theres a RED one inside the steering colume trim plastics & the ORANGE ones under each front seat for the seat belt tensioners.

Theres also a WHITE test plug for the seat belt tensioners on the left side of the center section trim under the radio, Remove 1 x screw & unclip the carpet.
THAT ONES FOR A PEUGEOT TECHNICIAN ONLY!

Hi

So the airbag light is ok now & your gauge & fan is working ok?

Did you get on ok with switching the alarm off & on again? Sometimes they are a right pain!
pug 405, electrical problem - duggie
Everything working ok, the alarms a right pain, l have the key and can switch the alarm on/off ok, the problem is the naughty thing keeps going off, so l tend to lock the car with the key and not the plip, even if l switch the alarm off and lock the car with the plip the alarm still goes off but not very loud.
pug 405, electrical problem - LeePower
Hi

Its not doing a small beep when you lock the car is it?

The siren is inside the passenger wheel arch behind the plastic wheel arch liner.

The control box is under the drivers seat underneath that black cover & the is a RED diagnostic plug for the alarm there to.

Is the bonnet sensor still atached to the bonnet catch? Small black pin switch that falls off & dangels down between grill & radiator & costs £18.

There are also catches on each door latch that wear & can drop off & cost about £3 each, these tell the alarm if a doors not shut, it doesnt sense the courtesy light.

Mine started blowing the 30 amp fuse & Peugeot dealer gave up on fixing it.
So I had a cat 1 Clfford installed instead.

When you lock the car with the alarm on you get a loud beep, l take it to have the alarm checked using the diagnostic plug this can only be done by a main dealer? l've not had the car that long, l'm slowly working my way through small jobs that need doing, just got fed up with the alarm going off, so l just use the key not the remote to lock the car. l'm off work the next 2 wks, so maybe l'll check all the door and bonnet catches then, hopeing at some point also to change the cambelt/aux belt.

Hi

The loud beeps telling you either the bonnet isnt shut or a door isnt shut all the way.

First port of call is the bonnet catch, Have a look & you should see a small black sensor attached to the catch, I reckon you will find this missing & dangling down between the grill & the radiator.
The sensor plugs in to a small black plug next to the passenger headlight.
If its missing, take the grill off 2 x 10mm bolts at top & 2 x cross head screws in the bottom slats & unclip the safety catch.

While the grills off, get all the leaves out between the fans & the radiator, Make sure the engine is cold because the fans CAN RUN WITHOUT THE KEY!

If that doesnt work & its a door catch, you can test these without stripping the doors.

Slid the drivers seat all the way forward & all the way up on the height adjuster to make access easier.

Go under the drivers seat & remove the black cover that hides the alarm box 2 x 10mm bolts you can then take out the 2 or 3 screws that hold the cover to the box, unclip the brown relay from the box aswell.

The front doors have seperate sensors but the back doors are linked to each other.

I cant remember what pins you need in the plugs, Ill look at my wiring diagrame & post this over the weekend for you.

If you have/or can borrow a test meter this will help you know end.

HINT: when your do this test, make sure all the doors are shut.
HINT: Shut the alarm down with the key, Its battery back up & as soon as you unplug the control box it will go off!

Hi Lee, had a quick look at the bonnet connector for the alarm, the connector is still in place but the part which makes contact with the bonnetlatch has broken off, in my earlier thread when l said the alarm kept going off, l should have explained that the alarm would set ok, but later the alarm would go off, sometimes 10 minutes sometimes a few hours - usually in the early hours!!

Hi

Sounds like a duff bonnet switch.

O.k. Try unplugging the bonnet switch, its the black connector clipped on the radiator, next to the passenger headlight, you have to look hard because it blends in with the radiator & slam panel. Try that to see if that stops it going off.

pug 405, electrical problem - duggie
Unplugged the bonnet switch, switched the alarm on and locked the car using the plip, still got that single loud bleep, according to the handbook the indicators should flash once when alarm activated, this doesn't happen, so l guess another door/tailgate sensor switch at fault.

Hi

o.k. then,

Check the boot lights working ok & not staying on,
Try arming with the ultrasonics switched off,
Shut the alarm down & unplug the control box, Do the indicators work now when locked with the remote?
Alarm Brown plug: Terminal: 5A = Front passenger door
5B = Drivers door
6A = Right rear door

Alarm Grey plug: Terminal: 6B = Left rear door

These switches earth themselves when a door is open or ajar, If the door is shut, there shouldnt be a path to earth throught the switch.
