mazda mx5 oil loss - alapppy
Hi

I have a 98 mx5 1800. Of late I notice that the car takes about a half to 3/4 pint of oil between services

Does this indicate serious problems ahead?

thanks

How long have you owned it?If you're it's new owner, can you ask if this is what the previous owner was experiencing?
How long are your service intervals?
Bet most will feel this is OK., if 5-6000 between.
If you've no signs of oil loss, you should be OK for over 100,000miles, trouble free.

I have had the car for 6 months and changed the oil in december
Looking at the history it was serviced by the book but the 1st owner did a very low mileage 20 k in 5 years!

thanks for the help

Previous owner may well have contributed by not driving it hard enough and the bores may be a bit glazed. What oil is in it? If a full synthetic ditch it and use a mineral or semi synth and drive it a bit harder to get the thing bedded in better, should improve things as time goes by. I am assuming that it is a Uk car not an import.
