Taxing a car without a V5 - Happy Blue!

I am buying a car from the Duchy of Lancaster in a Bona Vacantia case. The V5 cannot be found. I know I need to apply for a new V5 and I can get an receipt from the company acting for the Duchy proving have acquired the car legally. However, if I want to tax the car before I get the V5, how do it do it?

Thanks

Looks like you can't tax the car until you've obtained a V5C in your name.

Yes. Four weeks to get V5 then tax... Son going to have to be patient!

It's worth giving dvla a ring for advice as the online advice doesn't necessarily cover all scenarios. If you are calling them it's best to do so before you've sent anything back.
