Volkswagen Tiguan - turbo - bodace5

Im currently changing the turbo on a 2009 tiguan 2.0 tdi. Has anyone done one before? It looks abit of a nightmare. Ive started by removing the rocker cover which has given me more access to the manifold but it looks like i need to remove the dpf? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

These are a pain to do.you will need to drop the dpi/exhaust system,and you will need a lot of multi joint fingers.What is the problem with yours?

It started a few weeks ago, kept going into limp mode but you'd turn it off and back on and it was fine for a bit. Then the other day it just cut out and wouldn't start. After doing a leak off test i found all 4 injectors were u/s. Changed all 4 and it started and ran fine but the engine light was on. Plugged it in and it was saying p0088 fuel pressure too high. Changed the pressure regulator on the rail and cleared the fault. Was all good until i took it for a road test and both the engine and glow plug light came on. Plugged in found codes p0087 and a turbo fault code which pointed to a internal mechanical fault which i believe is the orignal fault at the start. So im at the point off changing the turbo, rail prssure sensor and the fuel pressure regulator on the pump itself. Im hoping this will cure all faults

I hate to say it, but it really sounds like you are playing 'parts bingo'. Changing possible parts, almost randomly, until BINGO, you find the one that was faulty.

Taking it in to a specialist professional garage for them to diagnose the fault may be cheaper in the long run.

Non start - injectors leaking off too much - changed injectors

Too high fuel pressure - regulator on rail not leaking off which is what caused all 4 injectors to fail - changed rail regulator

Too low fuel pressure - pressure sensor could be damaged due to rail over pressurising And/or pump regulator faulty hence low pressure warning

Turbo faulty - can't remember fault code but another garage already tried freeing it off so owner wants new turbo

Nothing random there

The p 0087 refers to fuel pressure.What was the turbo fault code,was it related to over boost.If it was,then I suspect you have the variable vanes in the turbo sticking.This can often be fixed without removing the turbo.There are products on the market that will do this.wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16471/P0087/0001...5

My sons partner had similar trouble with a variable vane turbo on a golf, he googled around and found a fix that utilised Mr Muscle oven cleaner spray, saved him a fortune. I reckon it worth a try, could save you a few quid.

I am beginning to think that there is some underlying problem here that not been rectified.Has the fuel filter been checked/replaced?Any signs of contamination of fuel and/or metal particles swarf in the fuel??

New fuel filter fitted when new injectors fitted and no swarf in bowl. I think my theory is sound and ill report back once if fitted said parts
