x type 2005 2 litre sports diesel - Fix or Sell xtype 2005. New to forum - cboo

Hi there, I have an xtype 2 litre sport. Nice car, I have had it since 2006 and service it each year at a garage. It began cutting out under load and will restart. Also occasionally after a short journey it won't turn over although my battery has tested as good. A local garage has offered to replace my injectors for £450 and if my problems aren't solved they will put my old ones back in and charge £50 total.
I paid £5,800 in 2006 and reckon it is worth around £1500 now. In the last two years I replaced the dual mass fly and clutch and fluid pump and egr valve. The car has done 139K miles.
Do I repair or sell? Any advice greatly welcome.

Toss a coin ? joke.

I find it difficult to make decisions like this. However, hoping it might help my thoughts are : You know how well the car has been looked after, the mileage is not astronomical, how much would it cost to replace with something significantly better.

If I liked the car I would probably keep it. Also some modern so called improvements do not impress me.

The local garage seem fair. Perhaps give it a try and if it works keep the car. If not see what replacement possibities are. I would definitely give the repair a go.

It does seem like a very fair offer from the garage.

I'll ask what could be a really dumb question, though I was told that the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask ...

Have you had the fuel filter changed ?

Before spending on injectors get the wiring loom for the injectors checked. It runs very close to moving parts and can fail. Any slight break in a wire and you will get running problems.

Thanks for the advice. I did a bit of internet digging and found that my xtype is on recall for short circuit on the injector nut. Car booked in next Monday. fingers crossed hey. I will come back and post on here ;)

Welcome to the forum, cboo. Check the other possibilities mentioned above, but on the face of it a repair makes sense.

Difficult to answer your actual question as we don't know what your budget is if you decided to sell the X-type and replace it. And would you be looking for a similar sort of car or something different?

Yes I presume the fuel filter has been changed I have it serviced yearly and last 2 years have used different garages.

Ok I can get the wiring loom checked out.

Budget to change the car is around 3-4K. Just not looking for your basic bog standard car, and bigger than a corsa lol ;)
