volkswagen & audi - 1.9 TDi 90-150 hp regular TDi vs. PDTDi - wizipisztoly

Hi,

So, im planning to buy a volkswsgen or audi 1.9 TDi 2000-2004. I found that 90 hp and 110 hp motor are regular TDi, however other motors with 101, 115, 130, 150 hp is PD TDI. A lot of people say that the 90 hp (110 also) TDi is the most simple and best motor and PD can have problems. Is that true? Is there a bigger chance of problems with PD TDI motors from 2000-2004 or they are pretty reliable as the 90 and 110 hp motors?

Andras

The tdi Pd engines of 1.9 variety are very durable and capable of vast mileages .The only proviso is that the newest ones are now 10 years old .

All the VAG 1.9 litre TDi engines were PD (pump duse, with an umlaut over the 'u').

I think you are getting mixed up with the 2005-2007 ish 2.0 TDi PD engines which suffered from injector problems.

As the elec doctor says, the 1.9 engines are regarded as reliable, but pretty unrefined by today's standards.

Over time, the 90 was uprated to 100 BHP, the 110 to 115 BHP, and the 150 BHP introduced.

The best one IMO was the readily available 130 BHP, although all the TDi PD engines had narrow power bands (i.e. turbo comes in suddenly at around 1800 RPM and suddenly tails off around 3500)

I would avoid the 150 BHP, it was probably a stretch too far for the mechanicals and was even rougher than the lower powered engines.

Sorry but you are wrong.

We had a 1996 1.9 TDi Mk 3 Golf and that was not a PD engine. The PD engine was introduced later in the Mk 4 Golf.

Yes, Skidpan, agreed.

But the OP is talking about 2000-2004 cars.
