VW LT, but relevant to most vehicles - Re - fixing door water shedding/damproof membrane - ardea

H-J recommends replacing torn membrane with blue plastic DPC sheet. I have tried this, but the old mastic adhesive is not now very sticky - probable cause of my leak. What is the correct adhesive to use for this job? Advice gratefully received,

Ardea

You could use ordinary silicon sealer, but the best product (IMO) that is readily available is from Geocell and called The Works. It's a rubber based sealant. I've used it on all sorts of projects. As it's a sealant and not an adhesive, it can be removed at a later date as it doesn't set completely solid. You can get it frm Toolstation amongst other places.

I used a few self-tapping screws.

I run a banger, so I don't care about creating cosmetic defects, but I can't remember there being any.

It'd be impossible (AFAIK) to get that specialist adhesive here anyway, and probably impossible to get blue DPC, but any waterproof plastic sheeting should do.
