Hesketh V1000 - Commission Sales - can I get insurance cover? - AvalonChris

I am selling my bike and have had an offer from a dealer to take it on a commission basis. The offer seems fair, in terms of what he would return to me, but my insurance company have said if i hand ove the keys - which of course i have to - how else can he demonstrate the bike to potential buiyers - then i am not covered by my insurance if the bike is sold and the dealer doesnt return the money to me. Since i cant be the first doing this - i wondered what other sellers have done in similar circumstances - other than just trust the dealer and hope!

cheers

Don't do it!

When I was trying to sell my T160 trident, nice condition but unrestored, dealer wanted to take it, no contract, (i wanted one) no receipt for bike, no money appearing, went and "rescued " it, mate afterwards bought it anyways.

How much do want by the way?

About 10 years ago a company who specialised in classic and racing cars (I had bought parts from them and had no compliants) offered this service. There were no complaints until several owners of cars being sold were contacted by the cars new owners for information. The original owners were suprised since they had not been told their cars had been sold. When they contacted the company about their money they were given loads of excuses and no money until the company suddenly declared themselves bankrupt. It got very complicated with the original owners trying to get their cars back form the new owners (unsuccesfully) and then trying to get money from the receivers (unsuccesfully). At the end of the day several people were left with no car and no money.

But the company were OK. Under a new name they bought all the equipment parts, tools etc from the receiver (one of the directors brothers was the new MD and did the buying), and set themselves up on the same trading estate.

Nice people.

Still around under yet another name.

Thats my fear! I would have thougt that by now some enterprising insurance co would offer to cover this. You seem to be able to get insurance for everything else - although some of these Gadget Insurances are frankly a rip-off - sorry strayed off theme. I wondered if someone out there knew of a policy or had thoughts on what you need to do. its 25 years since i last sold a bike!

Am after £11k. V low mileage, genuine etc etc. I've been given a contract by the dealer, but when i spoke to my insurance company they said if i hand over my keys - and how can the dealer sell my bike if i dont hand over keys - then i am not covered if the dealer doesnt return the money after a sale. I've done a commission sale before but then i knew the dealer - been around for years and a mate had bought a TVR from them.
