peugeot 306 tdi 1999 - heavy clutch - sparky100

Hi, my daughters 306 suffers from a very heavy clutch, the cable is very smooth when taken off the clutch lever and is well lubricated. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas what would cause this. Thanks. Sparky100.

The nature of the beast I suspect. My 306/ZX derived 2005 Mk 2 Berlingo has eaxctly the same issue. The cable intallation is lengthy in RHD applications and I suspect the internal mechanism gets heavier as the clutch wears.

I aclimatise to it until I drive the OH's Mk3 Berlingo with a featherweight hydraulic clutch.

Then I need to re-aclimatise..

This is presumably not an Hdi as they have a hydraulic clutch, the cable clutches do tend to get heavier as they wear. You can try lubricating the cable and also the clutch lever shaft where it goes into the top of the gearbox, this may help.
