Vokswagen Golf - Which Golf Engine

Vokswagen Golf - Which Golf Engine - offshore

Could anybody please tell me which of the folowing Golf engines is likely to prove the most reliable : TDi 105PS or the petrol TSi 122PS?

I have heard that previous Golf petrol engines were prone to timing problems, and the catalogue of diesel engine problems on this forum is scary.

NB I assume DSG just adds another layer of potential problems, which I am sure I can do without.

1.9TDI - generally a fantastic engine which is bombroof (if a little noisy!).
