Primera P12 2.0 Petrol (2003) - Oil choice for Primera P12 2.0 Petrol (2003)? - Quicksilver

I have to change the oil on a recently aquired P12 2.0l petrol.

The manual specifies almost every combination of 0W20, 0W30, 5W30, 10W40, 20W50 you can think of. However, there is no mention of 5W40.

I have a lot of quality 5W40 oil available from a previous vehicle and wondered if this would be OK?

I cannot think why it would be bad but am open to other peoples thoughts on whether 5W40 fully synthetic A3/A4/B3/B4 SLJ would not be OK?

As nobody else has replied I would say go with it. I am pretty sure that I used to put this grade in my 2.0 ltr primera. This has no technical backing but I don't think it will hurt. I must admit I used to leave it in for 2 years before changing about 10,000 miles (horror! wait for onslaught) good luck, this sort of oil is probably far over spec for a car of this age-all the better.

OK this is also my resoning as well.

The strange thing is that the diesel engines actually specify 5W-40 B1/B3/B4 API SLJ but the petrol engines do not.

I would guess good new oil is better than used oil?
