Taken from the VW UK web site, suitably vague! How often does it need to be changed?

4 - 5 years (4 years for cars registererd before September 2009, 5 years thereafter). This may need to be changed sooner for high mileage drivers.

The mileage quoted in my service book is 80,000 for a 1.9 Passat (2008)

The Grooved belt is not the timing belt. It is the serpentine Aux belt. Please clarify. Regards Peter

The timing belt is grooved athwart to the direction of travel. The grooves pick up the splines on the drive.

No, the timing belt is called a toothed belt. A groove in longitudinal. Regards Peter
