Are limited to just those two? What abpout a P reg 280 SL (a bit underpowered) 90K miles, Merc and indie service history, hard AND soft tops, 90K miles and yours for £5695.

Neither, as Armitage, i'd be looking at something a bit more 'proper', possibly a BMW 3 series or Merc CLK, good make specific indy and you're laughing.

I can stretch specifically to those to.

So which do you guys think reliability wise is bettet?

I would expect neither to be particularly good for reliability. You might aswell toss a coin. Personally I'd buy neither. Sorry to say each one is likely to be a money pit.

Can't quite follow how any convertible could be more "Proper" than Merc, preferably an SL, which has detachable hardtop and a soft top. Warm and quiet in the winter, a bit noisier and the option of roof down in less than 20 seconds - looks the biz to me.

Why did you wait till the expensive time of year?

Mazda MX-5. I'm not just saying that because I've got one, but because they're pretty unbeatable and you can get yourself a real bargain. They're also reasonable cost-wise to run.

Summertime is the most expensive. We have only just reached the end of winter.;)

Bobbin, looks as though the OP wants more that 2 seats. However, the best way around that is to have two MX-5s. Many years ago I saw a family use two Saab 99s in convoy, for the whole family. :)

If the OP needs four seats he can use the only option is a VW Eos, but there's reason VW now do a Golf cabrio, the Eos was a nightmare, especially its inability to keep water out of the car with the roof up.

OP could buy a Saab/Volvo C70/A4, but they would have to be older than the Pug/Renault. I think an Eos will be too expensive.

Lol money pit.

Well my cousin has a megane cabriolet for the past 6months he says hes pretty happy nothing major apart from the front window sometimes gets stuck.

Otherwise he says he loves it.

Im just not to sure.

Dont know 2 much about the peugeot version

Exactly. Passengers are over-rated. They put crumbs in the car and touch the radio buttons even when they know I will put them out onto the hard shoulder for it. <shakes head>

I have a 2000 plate clk 3.2 and its been really good for four years but you need an indie. Volvo c70 looks a good bet but has a cambelt whereas the clk has a chain. If you want a long term car go for the Merc.

This is probably your last chance to try a Saab 9-3 soft top.

If you're definately going to play Russian or in this case French car roulette, then i would find a good competent make specialist indy of whichecer make is most convenient for yoy and go for that one.

Problems on either, and there will be, if going to a typical main dealer will see your trouser pockets hanging out like a couple of flags in the breeze..;)

Armitage the reason i suggested CLK over SL was the genuine room for 4.

Don't wish a W230 SL on the poor chap, the front struts alone will cost as much as one of the other cars when the irreplaceable bottom ball joints wear out..;)
