Iveco - KM/Miles on odometer - mikeandvan

Looking to buy a used van, and I've seen one with 280K on the clock, but readout is given in KMs not miles, even though it is a UK registered van, why is that? It is a 6.5T vehicle. Just wondering is it possible to fiddle the mileage as heavy goods vehicles mileage aren't recorded at MOTS so cannot verify that way.

Thank you.

If it's a digital odometer it may well be switchable between km and miles ? Has it been used in Europe ?

I think only UK, but can't be sure, when you say switched will it convert miles into km and vice versa? Or just give the same read out, but after numbers merely says km or M. Its a digital odometer of course.

As a digital odometer is a mini computer readout it could easily divide everything by 1.60... and display miles instead of km - impossible with old-style mechanical ones. There may be a menu option to choose either display. Pity there's no MoT data available. There have been threads on here about MoT records with oscillating figures suggesting such changes.

It's probably because it could well have a tachograph fitted in it, thus they record in KM's. We have a 3.5t Transit at work that is fitted with a tachograph - it displays no mileage on the dash, only the number of KM's travelled on the tachograph head.

That sounds like it might be the reason, thanks.
